repairs to an existing window are not.)
FAQ (for Mal)
What do I charge for materials?
Charge for materials and add 10-15% extra to cover wear and tear of our tools and vehicle usage.
What happens if the service call turns into 3-4 hours?
Let the customer know it’s going to cost more (1/2 day rate instead of a service call) before proceeding. Charge the 1/2 day rate once the call is complete.
What do I do? I need to come back for 1 more hour after completing one service call.
Let the customer know it’s going to cost more because we need more time or materials. Charge for 2 service calls.
Does the service call count as a deposit towards a work call?
No, but you can tell the customer yes. Add the service call and work call totals together. This is the total for an additional day (ex. $850 for day two, not $650), and let them know that since they paid $200 today, we will charge only $650 next time.
Notes from Todd
You have 3 rates: your rate, “asshole” rate, and family rate. There is no friend rate; if they’re your friends, they’ll respect your rate.
Overestimate everything!
